Interviewed with Lillia Ivaniv and Trista Zheng
galaXy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities for disabled children, continues to make a profound impact on young lives. Recently, the organization held a special event at Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital for Children in Canton, Massachusetts, which highlighted galaXy's role in empowering children with disabilities through innovative and compassionate educational programs.
At the event, volunteers from galaXy worked with around 40 children, many of whom face significant physical and developmental challenges. The program combined learning, creativity, and play, giving each child an opportunity to experience education in a way that was tailored to their unique needs.
Lillia Ivaniv, the founder of galaXy, reflected on the success of the event, sharing, “We worked with about 40 kids, and by the end of the program each one of them had a brilliant smile on their face. It was truly an amazing experience for both them and the volunteers.” Ivaniv's words perfectly capture the heart of galaXy’s mission: to bring not only knowledge but also joy and confidence to children with disabilities.
The volunteers at Pappas Rehabilitation Hospital fostered an environment that was both nurturing and engaging, using educational demonstrations, creative projects, and interactive activities. Following the event in a post-interview with the Volunteer Leader, Trista Zheng, she added, "STEM is a crucial part of a children's education because it's very important for them to know about the world around them. STEM also opens doors to a bunch of opportunities to bring the knowledge they gained from STEM and connect them in the real world through future careers," These experiences help children not only learn but also express themselves in ways they might not otherwise have the opportunity to do. For children enduring long hospital stays, programs like these offer more than just learning—they bring a sense of normalcy and happiness to their everyday lives.
This event is just one example of galaXy’s ongoing efforts to ensure children in hospitals and rehabilitation centers are not left out of the educational journey due to their disabilities. By providing accessible and engaging programs, galaXy continues to be a source of hope for many children and their families, proving that education can be a powerful tool for both healing and growth.
As galaXy looks to the future, it remains committed to expanding its reach and offering similar programs to hospitals and centers across the region. With each new event, the organization reinforces its belief that every child, regardless of their challenges, deserves access to education—and, of course, the chance to smile!
